Our Patients Love Their New Smiles
I would highly recommend Claremont Orthodontics. Dr. Khatib and her team are extremely professional and very helpful. They provided my son with the highest quality of care during and post treatment. Thank you team for giving Ziyaad an even better smile!
During COVID I was spending so much time on Zoom I realized I needed to get braces on my bottom teeth…again. So, I did what every 40-year-old dreams of and became a teenager again! While getting braces as an adult is no walk-in-the-park, the experience with Dr. Khatib was exemplary. She and her team were always so professional, efficient, and aiming to please. Less than a year later, my braces are off and I now enjoy a perfect smile again, whether on Zoom or in real life!
Both my daughter and I have had work done by Dr Khatib and we are extremely happy with the results. My daughter went to 3 different orthodontists before Dr Khatib, and none of them were able to correct her teeth. We are both finished with our treatment and have perfect smiles.
The staff are always friendly and helpful, and I would recommend Claremont Orthodontics without a second thought.
Find The Right Treatment For You
At Claremont Orthodontics, we understand that everyone is different. That’s why we believe that every patient should have a unique treatment plan that works perfectly for them and their lifestyle. We offer a range of orthodontic treatment options, including aligners, traditional braces and ceramic braces. By explaining all the options and answering all your questions, we work with each patient to choose the best option to achieve their best smile. Below is a brief explanation of each treatment.
Interceptive Orthodontics
Interceptive orthodontic treatment is when children begin treatment while they’re still growing and have most of their primary teeth. The goal is to direct a child’s growth and development in order to fix or prevent certain kinds of malocclusions (problems with the size, position or spacing of the teeth or jaws), so that treatment is easier down the road.
Fixed Braces
Fixed braces consist of square brackets attached to each tooth, with a wire running through them, which gradually moves your teeth into the correct position. Use a constant, gentle pressure, which over time moves teeth into their proper positions. These braces are smaller and have a lower profile than they used to. Not only that, but modern technology has made it so that you end up with less metal and more comfort.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are a subtle alternative to traditional braces and are designed to help guide teeth into their proper position. Similar to braces, clear aligners use a gradual force to control tooth movement, but without metal wires or brackets. The aligners are made of a strong plastic material and are fabricated to fit each individual’s mouth. If a series of aligners are needed, each aligner moves the teeth in increments until the desired movement is achieved.
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) Bite Plates
Often called a bite plate or a splint, TMJ bite-plates will keep your upper teeth from grinding against your lower teeth. In addition to alleviating TMJ symptoms, this bite plate will prevent wear on your teeth from grinding that can lead to other problems. Whatever the cause, the results may include a misaligned bite, pain, clicking, or grating noise when you open your mouth or trouble opening your mouth wide.
Sleep Apnea / Snoring Appliances
Designed for patients with obstructive sleep apnea or snoring during the night, these dental appliances prevent the tongue from blocking the throat. These devices help keep the airway open during sleep in the most comfortable manner possible so that you and your partner can get a peaceful night’s rest.
Meet Dr. Khatib
I qualified as a general dentist in 2004 from the University of the Western Cape (UWC). After community service I worked in general practice and did part-time undergraduate dental student training and supervising at UWC. I started my orthodontic journey with a two year part-time postgraduate diploma in 2009 in interceptive orthodontics. In 2013, I was successful in my application for a full-time 4 year postgraduate masters degree in orthodontics. I graduated at the end of 2017 as a specialist orthodontist.
I am a member of the South African Dental Association (SADA) and South African Society of Orthodontists (SASO). I am currently serving on the exco for the Society. I enjoy attending orthodontic conferences, webinars and workshops. I believe it is important to keep up to date with recent orthodontic research and technology.
I am a wife to a wonderful guy and mother of three amazing kids. We enjoy spending time together, especially on the beach, going on bike rides and travelling to all sorts of interesting places.
